I have back pain. Can Pilates help?

Pilates emphasizes strengthening and balancing the muscles throughout the entire body and especially the core. Once the core is strong, the spine is supported. Pilates also lengthens the muscles throughout the body increasing flexibility taking the stress off the hips and lower back. In many cases, Pilates reduces or alleviates back pain.

I have recently been injured or had surgery. My doctor has cleared me for exercise. Is Pilates safe for me?

Pilates is excellent for getting back in shape post-rehab. It is gentle enough on the joints, yet very effective for strengthening the areas that have been injured. Physical Therapists are discovering the benefits of Pilates and have started using it during the rehabilitation process.

I am an athlete. Will Pilates enhance my performance in my sport?

Pilates is an excellent complement to any sport. It will enhance your athletic performance by strengthening all the large and small muscle groups, increasing your flexibility, core strength, balance, and coordination. Professional athletes, as well as Olympic athletes now,  include Pilates as part of their training regimen. Whether you play golf, tennis, soccer, basketball, football, swim, dance or any other activity, Pilates helps to strengthen your game and reduce risk of injury.

I am pregnant. Can Pilates help me through my pregnancy and delivery?

If your doctor has approved you for exercise throughout your pregnancy, Pilates will help you through the pregnancy and the delivery. Pilates helps to keep the back strong and strengthens the muscles you will use during delivery and while caring for your baby after child birth. There are modifications that can be made during the entire term of your pregnancy so you will exercise in comfortable and safe positions as your pregnancy progresses.

I have recently had a baby. Will Pilates help me get my pre-baby body back?

Pilates is great for toning and strengthening your body after pregnancy and delivery. With so much emphasis placed on strengthening the core, it helps to tone and flatten the abs and support the spine. It also helps to strengthen the muscles you’ll need most to care for your new baby.
